Turning On A Dime
Those of you following our progress towards the goal of walking a 5k in every province will know that we are counting down the days until our latest adventure. We will be doing a 5k in PEI and New Brunswick as well as a stop in Montreal to see our brother. But as the saying goes, when life hands you lemons make lemonade. And we had a big lemon handed to us when our flight to Moncton was cancelled. Not a problem you might say, and you would be right, except for the fact that our carefully coordinated trip designed to ensure that we could do a 5k walk in…

Remembering the Days of Summer Sun and Laughter
This year, the Sisterhood took a rather prolonged vacation, hence, no blog posts. We made good use of our time off to pretty much do whatever we wanted, and the good news is “we’re back!” We are relaxed, refreshed and ready to entertain you with fascinating stories and anecdotes….well, we think they’re worth a read😊 Sunshine and Summertime by Middle Sis We are blessed to live in a town situated between two lakes and surrounded by vineyards and orchards with lots of sunshine and warm temperatures all summer long. Not to mention festivals and events almost every weekend. So summer for us means lots of visitors. We are always so…

On The Road Again
Those of you who have followed the journey of the Sisterhood of the Travelling Shoes will be pleased to know that the destination for our 2025 walk has finally been chosen. For those of you who have no idea what I am talking about a recap: In 2019 we three sisters set a goal to walk a 5 km in every province in Canada as a way to honour the memory of our parents and have some sisterly fun and adventures while we’re at it. Thus was born the Sisterhood of the Travelling Shoes and to date we have completed walks in BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Quebec and Nova Scotia. East…

Working My Paws Off
Biscuit here. I know you have not heard from me in awhile, so I would like to bring you up to speed on what has been going on. I have been told I have to get a job if I want to keep my cell phone. Some how I have managed to run up a large bill, and now it’s my responsibility to pay for it. Can you believe that! I guess getting by on good looks just ain’t happening any more. I have never had to work a day in my life, so this is going to be interesting. Hold Please… So, after I sent my resume out, I…

I Am At A Loss
I realize that weight loss is a topic as old as the hills and can easily cause ones eyes to glaze over. I mean who hasn’t tried to lose weight? And who among us has managed to not only lose weight but also keep it off? For many it is a never ending cycle of frustration, but thanks to social media there is a flood of both helpful and sometimes questionable information, and I recently decided to “give it a go.” What are Macros? If you follow Instagram or other social media, you are likely well aware of the current trend towards maximizing protein intake, and tracking your macros. Macros…

Little Miss Sunshine
Recently the Sisterhood accepted a challenge to go 24 hours without complaining. Sounds simple enough, right? But I discovered that it’s more difficult than you would think. If I’m being honest I was successful for about three hours before the first complaint rolled off my tongue. Determined to do better, I would regroup and start over more than once throughout the day. So on the surface, this day looked like an abject failure, but in fact I did learn some things about myself. Rise and Shine I am an early riser and appreciate time alone to prepare for the day ahead. My routine involves some meditation and journaling along with…

That Was Then,This is Now
A little over 10 years ago, I was on the living room floor, thoroughly enjoying some imaginative play with my 3 year old grandson. And then the phone rang. I was expecting an important call, so I was anxious to get up, but I missed it because I couldn't move fast enough. And there you have the meaning behind the above title.

Smile At A Stranger Part Two
Over the years I have found myself following Big Sis’ lead in many things (remember the photo with us both wearing the same dress😬). After all she is the older wiser sister. I was quite intrigued with her “smile at a stranger” experiment and decided to try it myself and see what happened. Here for you is a description of some of my more interesting, unexpected interactions with strangers. Cooking Things Up When I was checking out at the grocery store I smiled at the cashier and asked him what he was hearing from customers about cookware that the store was offering on a promotion. He said that he had…

Smile at a Stranger Day
Recently I experienced a “smiling incident” that resonated so strongly I was compelled to write a blog post about it. I mean, it really resonated. So I decided to try a personal experiment which I imaginatively called “Smile at a Stranger Day.” It involved deliberate smiling attempts to engage with a stranger and documenting the results, which of course were beyond fascinating. So without further ado, I present my findings, none of which could possibly be classified as scientific in nature, but rather, anecdotal and very interesting. Big Sis’ Smile Stories I Like Your Shoes I will state right up front that I have an unhealthy fixation with shoes, stemming…

Ready For My Closeup
One of the many things I appreciate about retirement is not having to wear makeup every day. I went from a full face – foundation, concealer, blush, eyeshadow, mascara and lipstick, to being fresh faced; at least as fresh faced as a 55 year old could be. Moisturizer, lip balm and maybe some mascara was the new regime. As the years passed and the inevitable wrinkles, age spots and disappearing eyelashes became more noticeable, I decided maybe there was something to be said for a bit of help, just to freshen the look. Nothing drastic or permanent, me but just a little brighter. Things Have Definitely Changed Of course I…
