I Believe I Can Fly
We are in that time between cozying up by the fireplace to keep warm, and hanging out at the beach to soak up some Vitamin D. While we wait for the thermometer to rise, watching movies seems to be on the Sisterhood’s agenda. And when Little Sis was talking the other day about a new Marvel superhero movie we couldn’t resist imagining what powers we would want to have if we were “Senior Citizen Superheroes.”
On The Level
By Middle Sis
Even though I am nick named the Woo-Woo Sister, I also like to be practical. So my Super Power would be laser level eyes that would allow me to look at anything and tell instantly if it was level and straight. It’s a very versatile Super Power if I do say so myself. And in keeping with the minimalist lifestyle that I am currently trying to adopt, choosing a smaller more down-to-earth Super Power seems appropriate.
Right about now you may wondering why I couldn’t just use a regular level to hang pictures, but perhaps you haven’t considered all the other important uses for laser level eyes. Like being able to tell immediately if your glasses are crooked on your face or if the silverware is lined up straight on your dinner table. You could also point out when people were not sitting up straight. (I would do this very politely of course.)
This is not your average everyday Super Power, but in my world it would come in very handy. You see, I am not known for my picture hanging skill. Most pictures that I have hung have a series of nail holes around them where I tried to “eyeball it” to get them even and straight. Having this Super Power would save me so much time and spackle.
That said, it would also be nice to be able to fly so that I could visit my grandchildren whenever I wanted and not have to pay the exorbitant airline prices and deal with the security lineups and flight cancellations. I just have to figure out how I would deal with my luggage. Hmmm…. I may be rethinking my choice.
Just Park the Darn Car!
By Big Sis
Given my recent Instagram post, one might reasonably assume that I am obsessed with parking cars, and one would be right. I cannot for the life of me consistently park a car between the lines let alone with the tires facing straight forward. It is the bane of my existence.
So, My Super Power would be the ability to park a car anywhere, anytime, perfectly between the lines. And just to add an even greater degree of difficulty, I would like to be able to do it both forward and BACKWARD into a stall.
Just thinking about it gives me the chills. I wouldn’t have to look for parking stalls that have no vehicles on either side. I could park as close to my destination as I wanted. I would be comfortable approaching a stall from either left or right. The world of parking stall choice would be mine and I would be in control of my destiny!
At the risk of sounding greedy, I would add the ability to parallel park, no matter how small the potential opening might be. Even now, I can envision myself effortlessly swinging into a spot while the person waiting to proceed is filled with awe and admiration as I swiftly and accurately maneuver my vehicle into position. In my perfect world, they honk their horn and give me a thumbs up as they proceed past me and I smile and nod knowingly.
At this point, I would offer the accompanying picture as evidence that I did once manage what I would consider a perfect parking placement. The sun was shining, the sky was a perfect shade of blue and I could hear a crescendo of music in the background. My joy knew no bounds. Hence the need to document it with a photo. (Note the extraordinary parallel alignment with the lines and the exquisite symmetry of both front and rear tires facing forward)
The sad part is without my Super Power this magnificent feat may never be repeated. It’s nothing short of a tragedy.😔Oh well, I’ll just park the darn car anyway and hope for the best.
FOOTNOTE: Yes, I am aware that newer model cars are equipped with parallel parking assistance, cameras and “beeps” to guide the parking experience. I’m just too stubborn to give in. I’ll do it my way thank you.
Gone in the Blink of an Eye..

When this topic arose, I knew right away that my Super Power would be speed. Why not? I like to drive fast, I sometimes talk too fast, and at one point I was a pretty fast runner. Not so much now a days. I have reverted to fast walking and that is okay. I am not planning on running races any time soon.
Speed would also come in so handy at work. Just imagine how quickly you could make your day go by. An 8 hour day could be done in mere seconds. Amazing! Meetings, presentations, talking with that one co worker you do get along with, done! I would get my work done so fast they would have no choice but to promote me.
Hmmm. Now that I think of it, there is a potential downside. It’s entirely possible that I would be too efficient. Knowing my luck I would be given more work, and somehow I would be back at an 8 hour day no matter how fast I did my work. So, maybe at work I just go half speed.
In my day to day life speed would also be important. I could get all my chores done. Who I am kidding? I really don’t do many. I don’t run many errands either, but when I have to do the things that I don’t like to do, they would get done in a flash! Just think of it. All the things I don’t like to do would get done so fast, that I would not even realize I had done them.
There are so many other “speed” advantages. It can get you out of conversations you don’t want to be in, parties you really did want not to be at, and having to stand in any type of long line. Speed would also be useful for when you go on vacation. You could go to any part of the world, and arrive at your final destination before anyone knew you were even on vacation. You could save on gas, any sort of ticket, be it plane, bus or train. Basically you could avoid all those unnecessary travel charges, even baggage fees. With speed all you need to do is pack all your travel supplies in a knapsack and be on your way. (I think Middle Sis would be particularly pleased with this benefit.)
Honestly, there are so many benefits to speed I can’t fit them all in this post. The one thing I can tell you though is with all the time I will be saving, I will finally be able to stop and actually smell the roses. 😊
We’re doing a post every Monday so stay tuned for our next one entitled “The Silverware Mystery 2.0”
