On The Road Again
Biscuit here. It feels like forever since we went on a road trip and the time has finally come. I am so excited I can hardly stand it! We’re going to Oregon and I can’t wait to run on the beach, chase seagulls, and roll in stuff that smells good to me, but not everybody else.
Time To Get Ready
We were a lot more organized this year than we have been in the last several years, so the car was packed the night before our departure. The biggest concern I heard Little Sis and her hubby talking about was the possible long wait at the border because of the long weekend. Not sure what a border or a long weekend are, but because of them, this meant having to get up at 2:45 AM, and leaving by 4:00 AM. Yowzers! That is early, especially because I am definitely not a morning dog.
Once everything was loaded in the car (including me), I went straight into my carrier, and fell asleep, but that did not last long as I was so excited that we were finally on our way. Our first stop was at what I think was the border and to Little Sis’ great excitement, there were only three cars ahead of us. The guy at the gate asked some questions, and we were quickly on our way. I was a little insulted that he didn’t comment on how cute I was, especially since I was doing my best to look adorable. As the miles rolled by I still could not sleep, so I spent almost the entire time in the front seat watching cars pass by and practicing my best cuteness look.
Arrival At Last!
At long last we arrived in Oregon, only to find that our early departure meant our room was not ready, so a trip to Costco was in order as a way to pass the time. Little Sis and her hubby were very excited about Costco, but I was thoroughly bored until we drove to a place where they make beef jerky. The smells alone perked me up and when I saw Little Sis returning to the car with a giant bag of jerky I was ready for a feast, but alas I was not allowed to have any.đ To add insult to injury we were back in the car driving around again…
Just as I was sinking into a deep depression, I spied the beach. At last! I was so excited I couldn’t help myself. I started barking and jumping up and down until I was able to get out of the car and make a beeline for the sand. I hit the ground running and it did not take long before I was covered in sand and soaking wet. It was heaven! We were out there for awhile I think because it started to get dark, and it was time for a snack and I finally got to have some of that beef jerky. I was truly exhausted and it did not take long for me to start having puppy dreams.
Let The Adventures Begin
The next day was not very nice. It was raining but that did not stop us. We went to Seaside, and spent the day wandering around the town, and I even had my picture taken at the Seaside sign. As you can see my attention was not on having my picture taken. That’s because there were dogs every where and I wanted to make some new friends. Little Sis finally let me go and I was able to spend time chilling with my new American dog friends. One dachshund even gave me his email address to contact him in case I ever found myself in Boston.
The last stop of the day was at a local brewery. It was great. Little Sis snuck me some beer under the table and I managed to score some french fries too when I gave them my adorable look. After that it was back to the beach for some more running around and generally having a good time. I was feeling a little woozy at one point – one too many sips of beer I guess. Good thing I wasn’t driving.
The next few days were just as fun. One day we went to an outlet mall, and man was it busy! We had to drive around for 45 minutes just to find a parking space. It was worth it though as I got all kinds of tummy rubs, and pats as we walked through the mall. I felt like the belle of the ball! Clearly all my hard work at looking adorable was paying off.
While there I met a couple of kids who really liked me, and they gave me some naan bread to try. At first I was a little hesitant, but it smelled so good I just had to try it. It was delicious and I’m hoping Little Sis took note of how much I liked it and will add it to the grocery list.
By the time we got back to the car, I was pooped. I slept the whole way home, but woke up in just enough time to hit the beach one more time before calling it a day.
Life’s A Beach
Over the next few days we got up early so we could maximize our beach time. We went for really long walks in the sand. A cool breeze was blowing and there were all kinds of things to sniff and roll in. Best time ever! Having passed on swimming lessons when I was a puppy, the ocean waves scared me, so I did not go in the water, as I was thinking I might get washed out to sea, and who knows where I would end up. For the rest of the time we were just chilling and every time a dog went by I would give them a nod and a high five.
While at the beach I also picked up a new hobby. I am now an official shell collector. As you can see in this picture, I’ve started a shell garden at home to remind me of all my beach adventures. You can tell by the look on my face that I was annoyed. That’s because Little Sis wouldn’t let me have my shell collection in the living room. So now I have to figure out how I am going to weed my shell garden. Perhaps I can get some of that beef jerky to tempt my dog friends to help.
Homeward Bound
Before I knew it we were packing up the car to go home. We were all a bit sad as the good times and fun in the sun was quickly coming to an end. The ride home was long and rather uneventful, but that was okay, I slept most of the way. I am happy to report that all the practicing I did looking adorable paid off as the border guard on our way home was very taken with how cute I was. Score!
Once we arrived home I ran around the house barking and just generally checking things out. Even though we had a great time on vacation, I was glad to be home to sleep in my own bed, and dream of all the good times to come on our vacation next year.
We will do a new blog post every Monday, so stay tuned for the next one entitled “The Red Heart Candy Gang Strikes Again!”
