A Whole New World
We face many milestones in our lives. We can get a drivers license at 16, drink at 18 or 21 depending on where you live, and we can vote when we reach the age of majority, but nobody really talks about the other end of the spectrum – the 55+ milestone. This is the milestone that you reach when you tick the last box on a form when it asks your age. I have officially this reached this milestone, and will be wholeheartedly celebrating with Big and Middle Sis who have both been in the senior category for some time now.🤣
How Much?
Things are expensive today, but as a newly anointed Senior I am happy to report that I recently unlocked the secret of senior discounts, which is something that I never knew existed. I first discovered a senior discount when I had a craving for pancakes. I went to the only pancake place in town. I know, only one pancake place in town, is just tragic. Nevertheless, after I got seated the waitress brought me a menu. I was so engrossed in deciding what kind of pancakes I was going to have, I did not notice the senior discount at first.
After a few minutes the waitress came over, and I placed my order. She started to walk away, when I spied the senior discount information and called her back. When I asked about it she was very friendly and explained that it was Seniors Day, and there was 10% off all breakfast items. Being new to this senior world, I had my drivers licence at the ready to prove my age but the waitress just smiled and said there was no need. I guess my wrinkles were proof enough.😂 A short time later the pancakes arrived and to be honest they weren’t great, but the 10% discount softened the blow a little. This experience literally opened up a whole new world for me and I am currently all in on investigating where I can find more of these senior discounts. I’ll keep you posted.
Free you say?
Recently Biscuit and I went out for a much needed walk. We ended up at the local coffee shop and as I was ordering a half sweet Green Tea Latte and a Puppuccino for Biscuit, I glanced over and saw a magazine sitting on the counter advertising different community events. I grabbed one, and took seat. As Biscuit was enjoying her Puppuccino, I started thumbing through the magazine. It was was pretty amazing, there were all kinds of things for the 55+ set to partake in, and they were all free. Yes, you read that right free! I am currently considering attending an acid reflux workshop, a driving safety for seniors workshop and/or a wellness clinic where you can get your blood pressure tested all for free. Score!!
To sum things up, joining the 55+ club is a pretty good thing. At what other age can you get all these discounts and free stuff? I am proud to be a member of this club, but I think we need a universal handshake that lets everyone know you are a member, instead of having to show your drivers license to prove your age. Since Biscuit is a member of the senior doggie set, and is also not keen on having to show her ID every time she asks for a senior discount, we’ve been working on developing that secret handshake.
We will be doing a new post every Monday, so stay tuned for our next one entitled “I’m Looking Over A Four Leaf Clover.”
