A Place For Everything?
In many ways, my husband and I personify that cliche that says opposites attract. And no where is that more evident than when it comes to "stuff". He is not bothered by bits and pieces of everything laying around and likes to keep mementos of events big and small. I, on the other hand, prefer clean, clear surfaces and tend to let go of things perhaps a little too easily.

Changing of the Guard
I was saddened by the passing of Queen Elizabeth and in reading about what this would mean to the Royal Family, the phrase “changing of the guard” caught my eye. This got me to thinking about the changes that we all face as we age and how we navigate the changing of the guard in our family. Home Away From Home As Mom and Dad aged, Big and Little Sis gradually took on a bigger role in their lives. Driving them to appointments and hosting family dinners was now a regular occurrence. And now mom was a guest in our houses as opposed to us being a guest in hers.…

Start The Car!
You may recognize the title of this post as a phrase from an IKEA commercial advertising the affordability of their products. I love this commercial and have been known to utter this phrase myself when it comes to IKEA, not because of their prices, but rather because I am excited to go to IKEA. You see, IKEA and I go way back. I am a huge fan. The Light Goes On Because we lived in a lot of small towns, I didn’t always have the opportunity to visit IKEA. But when we moved to a city that had an IKEA store that I could visit regularly, I was hooked. Oh…

And Now For The Rest Of The Story…
The Sisterhood routinely endeavors to include pictures in our blog posts because we truly believe that " A Picture Tells a Thousand Words." This post in particular adheres to that principle, telling our story not only in words but also in multiple pictures and videos. Hopefully it will capture the essence of our Reunion 2022 and illustrate the joy, laughter and nonsense that was the heart and soul of our day. So grab a seat and your drink of choice, and get ready for an audio visual extravaganza!

100 (Almost) Posts and Counting
We at the Sisterhood of the Travelling Shoes like to think of ourselves as a well oiled machine – organized and smooth running. But we all know that every machine has a breakdown from time to time and the Sisterhood is no exception – thus the “Almost ” in the title. You see, in my enthusiasm to celebrate reaching the 100 post milestone I somehow miscounted and it turns out that as of today we are at 93 posts… Being the flexible group that we are and determined not to lose sight of the fact that 93 posts is an accomplishment worth celebrating too, it seemed a good time to…

Ties That Bind(er)
Today is Valentine's Day, so I'm sure you're expecting me to write about all things love, and I am, just from a different perspective than you might ordinarily think about.

Try A Little Kindness
When we chose kindness as our word of the month for November, I remember thinking there would be lots to write about and the words would flow easily. After all, we Sisters are kind people and were raised by one of the kindest people ever – our mom Betty. But when it came time to sit down and start formulating what I was going to write, I kept getting stuck. What’s the Plan Stan? I love the concept of random acts of kindness and always feel incredibly uplifted when I am able to perform one. So why was I struggling so much to write about it? What I figured out…

Have You Tried Turning It Off and On?
Unlike our kids and grandkids, the Sisterhood can occasionally be overwhelmed by today’s technology. After all, we grew up with land line phones, black and white televisions and cameras that required film and a few days processing before the eagerly awaited photos were ready for pickup. While we do consider ourselves reasonably “technologically adept,” we occasionally (our kids might use the word often…) need just a teensy bit of help figuring things out. And, as Middle Sis’ adventures below illustrate, we sometimes have difficulty discerning exactly when we need that help. If I Had A Hammer Recently my husband started having trouble with his phone – emails going missing, texts…

When Your Focus Is Out of Focus
Big, Middle and Little Sis all wear glasses and so regularly have their visual focus checked and corrected as need be. But that is not what we had in mind to talk about when we chose “focus” as our word of the month for October. Rather we were thinking about where we choose to spend our time and attention day to day and how to make sure we’re clearly focused on the right things. Would You Repeat That Please? By Little Sis I love to sleep, and you would think that after a long at day work, sleeping would be a welcome relief. I don’t consider myself an insomniac, but…
