An Alarming Experience
When Middle and Little Sis both revealed that they were alarm-o-phobic, that is terrified of setting off their house alarm, Big Sis felt she had to intervene. As the older wiser sister, she thought it would be therapeutic for them to work through their alarm-o-phobia by writing about it, in the hope that they could move on with their lives and stop cowering at the front door as they prepare to turn off their house alarm.

Inquiring Minds Want to Know
On a recent WhatsApp call, Middle Sis asked a question that stumped us. It was completely irrelevant to the conversation, but we humoured her and immediately stopped everything to deal with it. Middle Sis' question? "What and where is the Cloud ?" Well that was all we needed. It resulted in a monumental round of speculation, ultimately leading to a further list of "Questions that have always bugged us." I mean we haven't lost any sleep over them, but we would certainly feel a sense of relief, perhaps even euphoria if they were answered.

Let The Sunshine In
I remember every September in grade school being asked to write about what I did on my summer vacation. Back in those days, summer vacation was usually spent playing with neighborhood kids, the odd trip to the outdoor community swimming pool or to get ice cream and perhaps a trip to visit out of town relatives. Nothing too remarkable to report to your teachers and classmates. Fast forward to the summer of 2021, which has brought a series of events that has made this summer something to write about, but for all the wrong reasons. Ongoing COVID, blistering heat and no rain leading to forest fires in every direction and…

Start Each Day With a Grateful Heart
When I started thinking about what I would write about Grateful, for our June Word of the Month Challenge, I first thought about my daily gratitude practice. But when I sat at the keyboard I just couldn’t think of what to say beyond the fact that it has been beneficial to me. I kept thinking maybe there is something bigger I should write about. After pondering this over my morning coffee, I realized that I was very grateful for our Sisterhood blog in so many different and some surprising ways. Every Boat Needs an Anchor When both your parents have passed away, the world changes. The best way I can…

Dogs Have Feelings Too..
Hi everyone, Biscuit here. I am very honored to tell you that I did such a good job on my last couple of Posts, I have been asked again to write a little something. I love writing stuff even though its hard to use the keyboard, not having any opposable thumbs and all. Covid has really been hard on all of us and I know that both humans and canines are anxious to get back to normal. Now that it is going away, and I am finally able to get out (paws crossed), I want to share with all of you the fabulous things that I am going to do.

It’s Your Move
Recently we marked the milestone of having lived in this house for ten years. For most people this would likely not be of note, but having moved 13 times over the 34 years of my husband’s career, this is the longest we have lived in any community (or house for that matter). All this moving brought us many challenges, trials and tribulations but what I also realized recently was that moving also brought some important life lessons. Not wanting to waste all this hard earned knowledge and experience, I present my list of “things you never knew you needed to know about moving.” Marie Kondo Is Right One of the…

Words to Live By
It seems to me that today's world is fuelled by a relentless search for inspirational quotes and words of wisdom. A quick scan of Instagram posts will confirm the proliferation of "arm chair quarterbacks" and self help gurus, telling us how we can become a better version of ourselves, to never give up and that they (whoever "they" are) believe in us. In short, we can be whoever we want to be if we just listen to/follow their well intentioned, advice. Amidst this deluge, it can be difficult to find meaning in any of it. It becomes a blur as you scroll through post after post in search of something…

What Would Betty Do?
Our mom Betty’s superpower was her ability to connect with others. She genuinely liked people and they liked her. So, it was a “no brainer”, when we chose communication as our May Word of the Month Challenge, to channel Mom and practice our friendly/cheerful communication skills. That said, when we chose communication as our word for May I don’t think we really thought through the implications that COVID would have on our ability to do this. However, despite all the restrictions that COVID has brought, we Sisters are of hardy stock and so we soldiered on with our Challenge. As you will soon see, both Big and Little Sis dealt…

Mom and Me and the PNE
It was recently announced that the PNE (Pacific National Exhibition), would be cancelled for another year. This came as no surprise. It was another “Covid fatality.” Just the mention of the PNE, however, triggered some wonderful memories of visits to it with Mom, myself and my husband. It was an annual event that we all really looked forward to. As a preface to the following I want to note that my husband has often informed me that he wants ” I never paid retail” engraved on his tombstone (and so far he never has.) The significance of this will become a clearer as you read on. The day, or should…

The Not To Do List
I confess that I am an habitual "To Do Lister." I usually start my day, trying to organize my thoughts and the list gets me focused and ready to tackle the coming challenges. That and a cup of coffee has me energized and optimistic. Fast forward to the end of the day, however, and my mood is often much different. Checking that list at day's end frequently has me feeling ineffectual and annoyed with myself as I mark items to be transferred to tomorrow's list.
