Rest In Peace
Like many of our generation, reading the obituaries is a regular occurrence....a daily ritual of sorts. Doing so, offers inspiration and encourages self contemplation. It perhaps provides a template for writing the inevitable obituary for loved ones and it prompts us to consider the content of our own obituary when the time comes.

You Say Its Your Birthday…
I recently celebrated a landmark birthday and I am now feeling “officially old.” Up until now, birthdays have never bothered me much, but this one stopped me cold. I can no longer deny to myself or others that I am “aging” and to say that I was shocked and depressed about the situation is a bit of an understatement! Once I had a glass of wine and thought things over, however, I came to the only possible conclusion: There was of course, nothing I could do about it. You can’t beat Mother Nature, so there was no recourse but to put on my big girl panties and try to make…

It’s Not Easy Being Red
I was a happy go lucky little girl, not a care in the world. In spite of the fact that Mom had an aversion to stylish hair cuts and a preference for odd shaped glasses, life was good. Almost all of my siblings ( Middle Sis being the exception) had red hair too, so I fit right in. These were my people! It wasn't until I started school that I realized I had red hair and I was different than the other kids. Suddenly, I was a redhead in a sea of blondes and brunettes and my world turned upside down in a heartbeat! This is the story of my…

Sing, Sing A Song
Based on the title and picture above, you could be forgiven if you thought that this post was about the Von Trapp family and the Sound of Music movie. This post does involve a family with a lot of kids (ours) and singing, but not the big screen production musical sort. Perhaps it had something to do with our Irish heritage and certainly the times were very different. This was back when the internet and smartphones were the stuff of sci-fi, and TV consisted of three channels and watching it was pretty much confined to the Wide World of Sports on Saturday and the Wonderful World of Disney on Sunday.…

Thanksgiving in the Breezeway
When my oven gave up the ghost exactly three weeks before Thanksgiving, I didn't panic. I was calm and if I do say so myself, I handled it brilliantly. I was relaxed and confident that this was only a minor blip that would be rectified in very short order. So, I waited a few days before I began my quest to repair it. I ask myself now, what dreamworld/parallel universe was I living in?

That Cute Little Couple
Thanksgiving gives us pause and the opportunity to reflect on our good fortune and appreciation for the people who enrich our lives. It always falls very close to both Mom and Dad's birthdays, so in keeping with tradition, the Sisterhood organized a "Memorial Walk" to remember our parents, known to many as "That Cute Little Couple." Of course the walk was virtual and entirely voluntary.

Boobs and Bunions
We realize this is a gender specific post, having the potential to alienate anyone not at all interested in the topic. That is entirely up to you dear reader, but please be aware that it is a subject near and dear to the hearts of many women who will possibly benefit substantially from reviewing the following. Because we are gifted with what I would refer to as “Boobage”, women are often faced with a dilemma when it comes to working out. Your everyday, ordinary bra simply will not do when one is jumping, running and even walking, in the pursuit of physical fitness. Hence the need for a bra that…

Little Sis Lets Loose
Once we are allowed to start travelling again, The Sisterhood will start walking again. Being the optimist that I am and in preparation for that next big 5K walk, I bravely decided to go back to the gym. The first thing I noticed was not how out of shape I was, but the lack of common courtesy displayed by fellow gym members, which is the inspiration for this post.

Mom Always Liked You Best
When one of my siblings recently said to me that they thought I was mom’s favorite, my first thought was who has time to have a favorite when you have five kids to raise?? But, when I thought about it, I wondered if it wasn’t that I was her favorite, but that she and I had many things in common. This was true from the moment I was born. Mom and I were both born in the month of October, in fact I was just a couple of hours from being born on her birthday. More than once mom said that she wished we had the same birthday. but alas,…

How Are You?…. No Really, How Are You?
We all do it. Without a second thought we ask acquaintances and even strangers that standard, polite question: "How are you?" Those three words may even escape our lips several times a day. Then we wait for the standard, polite response: "Fine, thanks" or "Good, thanks." And that is pretty much that.
